About the project:
The development at Albion Works, Mottram St in Stockport saw the demolition of the former Albion Works site, and the creation of Castlewood Court. This is home to 18 self contained apartments for adults with disability needs, as well as a care worker hub for 24/7 support. This has become the perfect home for adults with assessed care needs who are looking to live independently, and each flat is stylish, well designed and purpose built. The building is also fully accessible, with lift access throughout.
The roofing installation at Albion Works, Mottram St:
As the leading roofing experts in the North West, here at Enviroply Roofing, we installed the two roofing systems for this development, including the upper and lower roof. We began this installation on 16/03/2021.
Starting with the lower roof, we first installed the Vapour Control Layer (VCL): the Sarnavap HD SA. This is a VCL that is made of polymer modified bitumen and an aluminium composite, with a glass combination inlay, for top quality, long lasting, and durable, waterproofing protection. In fact the HD in the name of this product stands for Heavy Duty. This is a highly effective option for controlling moisture build up and keeping the rest of the roof layers fully protected from condensation issues.
Following this, we installed the insulation layer, which was the Tapered Sikatherm PIR GT Insulation. These are insulation boards that are tapered at one end to create a slight gradient on the flat roof, for the effective drainage of rainwater, and to prevent ponding problems. This insulation option is incredibly durable and hard wearing, while also being lightweight. Designed with coated glass tissue facing on both sides, these boards are the perfect choice for residential properties, offering highly effective thermal insulation and helping to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature all year round.
We completed the lower roofing system with the installation of the Sika Sarnafil Light Grey G410-15EL Membrane. Made from multiple layers of premium-quality polyvinyl chloride (PVC), this is a high standard single ply membrane option that is flame resistant and also contains UV light stabilisers. This membrane is specifically designed to withstand direct exposure to the elements, for many years to come.
The roofing system for the lower roof level was fully adhered into position.
For the upper roof system, we began the installation with the Vapour Control Layer (VCL) for which we used the Sarnavap 500E. This is a highly regarded and popular VCL option due to its high performance and ability to resist water vapour and condensation. The Sarnavap 500E is flexible, long lasting and non-decaying, for peace of mind for your roofing system.
We then installed the insulation layer on the upper roof, using the Sikatherm PIR AL Insulation. These are insulation boards that are faced on both sides with aluminium foil, providing top level insulation for the property, with a very low rate of thermal conductivity.
We completed the roofing system for the upper roof with the installation of the Sarnafil S327-15EL membrane. This membrane is a high quality option that is polyester reinforced and made from multiple layers of premium-quality polyvinyl chloride (PVC), for a high level of wind resistance, UV resistance, water resistance, and full weather protection all year round.
The roofing system for the upper roof level used a mechanically fixed system to keep the roof in place.
The result at Albion Works, Mottram St, Stockport
