About the Moor Lane project:

Moor Lane in Bolton is a central part of the plans for the regeneration of Bolton Town centre, which is focused on creating new homes, improving connectivity across the town and creating high quality public spaces. As part of this, the former Moor Lane Bus Station was transformed into a multi-use space, with 162 flats and 44 three-storey, three-bed houses, as well as retail space and two small parks. The retail space occupies the ground floor of some of the apartment blocks, and has created a vibrant, multi-use development that combines living and leisure space in Bolton City Centre.

The redevelopment of the bus station is a key part of the Moor Lane development overall, which will see 208 new homes and 164 one and two bedroom apartments.

Our role in the project:

Here at Enviroply Roofing, our team installed the Sikaplan roofing system for the three-storey houses on this development, as well as for Blocks 3 and 4. This project prioritised longevity, build quality, and durability, which means that a mechanically fixed Sikaplan roofing system was the perfect choice. We began the installation on 03/07/2023.

We began the construction of the roof with the installation of the Air and Vapour Control Layer. For this we used the Sarnavap 500E. This flexible and durable AVCL is renowned for its excellent resistance to water vapour, and as such, this is widely recognised as one of the most reliable options for a variety of building types, including residential projects. The Sarnavap 500E can protect the roofing system from water vapour build up, which could lead to the degradation of the roofing materials over time, helping to improve the longevity and durability of the roofing system overall.

Following the AVCL layer, we then installed the insulation. We used the Sikatherm PIR AL insulation boards for the Moor Lane development. These boards are lightweight but strong, faced on both sides with aluminium composite foil, which is bonded to the core, creating an insulation layer that is durable, resistant and lightweight, with a high level of tensile strength. This also offers a high level of thermal resistance, reducing heat loss from the homes in the winter, and keeping the houses cooler in the summer.

Finally, we then installed the Sikaplan G-15 Membrane. This single-ply membrane is known for its excellent UV protection, strong wind resistance, and high water vapour permeability, making it highly durable and resistant to all environmental challenges and weather conditions. As such, it was the perfect option for the Moor Lane development, bringing full protection to the new roofing system.

The roofing system was mechanically fixed into place in accordance with all relevant and necessary guidelines and regulations.

The result at Moor Lane

We completed the roofing installation on the Moor Lane development on 07/05/2024. All of the standards were met to achieve the guarantee, and everyone involved was happy with the outcome.
