Project: St. Columbas Ripley St
Address: St Columba’s, Former St Columba’s Church, Ripley Street, Bolton, Greater
Manchester, BL2 3AR
Contractor: Tyson Construction
Roof size: 484m2
Roof system: Sika Sarnafil Single Ply Roof, G410-15EL.
Installation: Fully Adhered
Our role in the project:
The Cold Roof balconies:
For the cold roof balconies, we will be installing a roof deck made from precast concrete planks that have been screeded or grouted to prevent ridges and hollows.
We will then be installing a Sika Sarnafil G410-15EL light grey glass fibre carried membrane. This will be fully adhered to the surface of the roof deck for maximum coverage and weather protection. Furthermore, it will be supported by Sarnafil peel stops around the perimeter of the roof, at all internal angles of roof detail and around all roof penetrations.
On top of this, a Sarnafil G445-13 PVC protection sheet will be installed, and the balcony will be completed with load bearing strength graded timber decking.
The Warm Roof balconies:
For the warm roof balconies, a new precast concrete roof deck will be installed. On top of this, we will be installing a Sarnavap 5000E membrane, for the vapour control layer. This offers full flexibility, and a high level of water vapour resistance.
The insulation layer will be installed on top of this, and we will be using Sikatherm PIR insulation for this. This is an insulation option that offers zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) and low Global Warming Potential (GWP). The insulation will be installed in a staggered bond layout and will be mechanically fixed.
A single ply membrane will be installed next, and for this we will be using a Sarnafil G410-15EL Light Grey membrane, which we will be fully adhering to the lower layers. In addition, we will be using this for the detailing membrane, and installing peel stops where necessary. Again, we will be installing a Sarnafil G445-13 PVC protection sheet. This roof balcony will also be completed with timber decking.
The Main Roof:
The main roof of the St. Columbas project will begin with a new plywood roof deck that will be mechanically fastened into place.
The vapour control layer will be installed on top of this, for which we will be using a Sarnavap 5000E membrane for a high level of humidity resistance and durability.
The next layer will be the insulation layer, for which we will be using Sikatherm PIR GT CFC and HCFC free polyisocyanurate insulation. This has a high level of thermal efficiency and will be mechanically fixed.
Finally, we will be completing this roof project with a Sarnafil G410-15EL Light Grey single ply membrane which offers full weatherproof protection as well as a high level of flame retardant, wind resistance and UV resistance.
