Project overview:

For the development at Burnley College we installed the roofing system for the new teaching block and sports centre extension. This would increase teaching space and provide improved facilities for teaching and learning. As part of this development, we installed a Sikaplan roofing system for the different roof structures at different levels.

Our role in this project:

For this project, our expert team here at Enviroply Roofing, installed a high and low level roof for both the sports hall and the teaching block, as well as the concrete sports hall deck area. For this, we put in place Sika roofing systems for maximum performance and longevity. Our roofing installation began on 05/08/2021.

We began the installation with the Air and Vapour Control Layer (AVCL) for which we positioned the Sarnavap 500E. This is a foil faced reinforced bituminous membrane, and we installed this directly onto the new roof deck. Because of its design, this AVCL option offers a high level of water vapour resistance, which can help protect the rest of the roof structure from damage caused by water vapour or condensation. In addition, the Sarnavap 500E also boasts an impressive amount of durability and flexibility. For the concrete sports hall deck, and the lower teaching block roof, we fully adhered this AVCL into place, while for the remaining roof systems, the Sarnavap 500E was loosely laid and secured at the perimeter and edges, in accordance with best practices.

For the next stage of new roof systems, we then installed the Sikatherm PIR GT Insulation. This is an insulation option that provides a very high level of thermal insulation, and has a long industry record for quality and longevity. For the higher and lower sports hall roof, and the higher teaching block roof, we mechanically fixed these insulation boards into position, in a staggered bond pattern in line with manufacturer recommendations. However, for the roof spaces with a concrete deck this insulation was tapered to create the perfect drainage gradient, and was fully adhered into place.

Finally, we completed the roofing installations at Burnley College by installing the single ply membrane. For this project, the Sika Sarnafil G410-20EL was the best option, providing maximum durability and flexibility while fully protecting the roof and property from the elements. It was fully adhered to the surface and then hot air welded around the edges for maximum protection.

The result at Burnley College

We completed the development at Burnley College on 29/01/2022. All parties involved were happy with the completed works, with further projects in the future, and a high standard was achieved for the 25 year guarantee.
