Our role in the project:

The development at Cronton Sixth Form College saw the creation of two new blocks, expanding space for students and creating new classrooms. Here at Enviroply Roofing, as the number one choice for roofing in the North West, we installed two new roofing systems for each block. These were mechanically fixed Sika Sarnafil systems, with the installation being identical for each roof. Our installation work began on 13/07/2021.

We began the installation with the Vapour Control Layer (VCL), for which the Sarnavap 500E was used. This is a VCL that is very popular due to its high level of water vapour resistance, which allows this product to protect the rest of the roofing system from humidity, condensation and moisture build up. This product is also renowned for its flexibility, durability and long lasting nature. We installed this with overlapping seams and fully sealed joints for full security and performance.

Once the VCL layer was in place, we then installed the insulation layer. This is an essential part of the roofing build up which helps prevent the loss of heat from the building, through the roof, and helps prevent the building from absorbing too much heat from the sun in summer. For the Cronton College buildings, we installed Tapered Sikatherm PIR AL insulation boards. These have a tapered shape, which allows for a slight gradient to be achieved, helping to direct water away from the roof and towards the appropriate drainage, preventing problems with standing water. We installed the insulation in a staggered bond pattern and these boards were mechanically fixed into position in line with the manufacturer’s recommendations and guidelines.

We completed each of the roofing systems with the installation of the single ply membrane. For the Cronton College blocks we installed the Sika Sarnafil S327-18EL membrane in a lead grey colour. This is a high performing option that is made from multiple layers and is polyester reinforced. Specifically designed for a high level of UV and flame resistance, this single ply membrane offers long lasting protection from wind and rain, as well as animal behaviour, making it the perfect choice for the new buildings at Cronton College.

The result at Cronton Sixth Form College:

The roofing installation was completed on the 27/01/2023, with each roof installed to a very high standard, meeting the requirements for a 20 and 25 year guarantee per block.
