About the project:
At Elm Wood Primary School, a new dining hall and kitchen was constructed, which provided space for 15 classes of primary school children to enjoy lunch together. The focus of the construction was to create a space that was welcoming and fresh, with plenty of room.
Our role in the development at Elm Wood Primary School
We were delighted to work on this project here at Enviroply Roofing. As the number one roofing experts, we installed a Sikaplan single ply roofing system for this new building, which was mechanically fixed into position, and included a walkway and PVC laminated drip edge flashing, to the outer face of the parapet.
The AVCL
The roofing installation began with the Air and Vapour Control Layer (AVCL). For this project, we used the Sarnavap® 500 E. This is a well renowned AVCL that provides a high level of water vapour resistance, as well as fire resistance. This means that the Sarnavap® 500 E can be very effective for protecting the rest of the roofing system from humidity, condensation and moisture build up. This product is also renowned for its flexibility, durability and long lasting nature. We installed this with overlapping seams and fully sealed joints for full security and performance.
The insulation
Following the AVCL layer, we installed the insulation layer. For this project, Sikatherm® PIR AL Insulation was chosen. These are insulation boards that are designed for exceptional thermal efficiency, preventing heat loss through the roof during winter and cooler months, and preventing the building from heating up too much during the summer. This can help reduce energy bills, and keep the new dining space comfortable all year round. These insulation boards also offer outstanding compression strength and longevity. We installed these insulation boards in a staggered bond pattern in line with manufacturers guidelines.
The single ply membrane
Finally, we completed the roofing build up with the installation of the single ply waterproofing membrane. For this we used the Sikaplan G-18 membrane. This is a top notch single ply membrane option that is made from a synthetic, multi-layer sheet with a polyvinyl chloride (PVC) base. This is fully waterproof, weather resistant and animal resistant, and also contains ultraviolet light stabilisers for UV resistance. The Sikaplan G-18 membrane is also flame retardant and durable, for a long lasting and highly effective roofing option.
Finishing touches at Elm Wood Primary School
For the perfect practical, aesthetic and weatherproof result, we also installed a walkway and PVC laminated drip edge flashing, to the outer face of the parapet.

Our roofing installation was completed on 04/03/2024. The project went well and was completed to a high standard, with everyone involved happy with the work. The roof achieved the requirements for a 20-year guarantee.
