About the Project:
The Moston Campus development saw the creation of 60 affordable homes in the heart of Harpurhey, just a short walk from parks, green spaces and Harpurhey Shopping Centre, as well as being just 30 minutes from the centre of Manchester. This project focused on sustainable development and has created much needed affordable housing in the area.
These 60 new homes are split into 50 two and three bedroom properties, with 33 of these being designated for affordable rent, and 17 for rent-to-buy. There are also 10 one and two-bedroom apartments, all available for social rent. The two and three-bed homes are all electric and fitted with solar panels, and each property has both front and back garden space.
The roofing installation at Moston Campus:
Here at Enviroply Roofing, we installed the Alkorplan roofing system for the apartment block as part of this development at Moston Campus. This roofing system is known for its durability, reliability and high performance when it comes to waterproofing, UV protection and weather resistance. We began this installation on 17/10/2023.
We began the installation with the Alumasc Air and Vapour Control Layer (AVCL). This is specifically designed to protect the roofing system from water vapour and moisture build up, by controlling condensation accumulation. The Alumasc AVCL is a fantastic option for the development at Moston Campus as this will protect the new homes for years to come.
Following the AVCL, we then installed a double layer of 200mm Alumasc FF PIR insulation boards to insulate the new properties. These rigid foam insulation boards are faced with low emissivity composite foil, and this is designed specifically to improve the thermal efficiency and to achieve a high level of thermal performance for the Moston Campus properties. These boards were mechanically fixed into position for a secure result.
We completed the Alumasc roofing build up with the installation of the Alkorplan F PVC single ply membrane. This was a lead grey colour to complement the aesthetic design choice of the structure, for a stylish result. The Alkorplan F PVC is made from top quality thermoplastic PVC-P, and this is a roofing membrane that offers fantastic weatherproofing and waterproofing, environmental and UV protection. As such, it is a long lasting and reliable roofing system for the Moston Campus development. This was mechanically fastened into position.
The result at Moston Campus:
Our roofing system installation was completed on 30/11/2023, to an outstanding standard, meeting the requirements for a 20-year warranty, with all parties impressed by the result.
