About the development:
The former Shevington Community Primary School was demolished to make way for a new development, which included a residential building and an access road. This new property, now known as Shevington Extra Care, features 32 self contained apartments along with shared communal facilities. Designed as an Extra Care housing scheme, it offers accommodation for residents aged 55 and over, catering to various medical and welfare needs. To support round the clock care, a staff sleep over facility was also incorporated into the development.
Our role in the project:
As the leading roofing experts in the North West region, here at Enviroply Roofing, we installed 5 roofing systems for the Shevington Extra Care development, as well as a canopy roof. These roofing systems each had different requirements and specifications to ensure the best possible results. The total combined roof size was 1,457m2, with the largest of these being 1,013m2. We began the installation on 22/04/2024.
We began the installation with the Air and Vapour Control Layer (AVCL) for roof systems A to C. For this, we used the Sarnavap 500e. This is a foil faced reinforced bituminous membrane, and due to its superior design, this can deliver a high level of water vapour resistance, making it the perfect option for the Shevington Extra Care development. The Sarnavap 500e can help protect the rest of the roof structure from damage caused by water vapour or condensation, and also has an impressive amount of durability and flexibility, for effective long term roof protection.
For Roof D and E we installed a felt VCL layer to provide excellent water vapour resistance.
We continued the roofing build ups with the insulation layer. For roofs A to D at the Shevington Extra Care development, we installed Sarnatherm tapered insulation boards. These will provide outstanding thermal resistance, helping to keep the residential properties at the perfect temperature all year round. These boards can prevent the property from losing heat in the winter, and from gaining too much heat in the summer. In addition, Sarnatherm tapered insulation boards are also designed to create the necessary gradient for transporting rainwater from the surface of the roof and for preventing pooling and ponding issues.
For roof E, we installed Sarnatherm flat insulation instead of the tapered insulation.
Finally, we completed each of the roofing systems with the installation of the Sikaplan single ply membrane in the light grey colour. As a multilayer membrane this is designed to protect the roofing build up from all weather conditions, including high winds, and is resistant to UV damage and animal activity.
The result at Shevington Extra Care
We completed the roofing installation at the Shevington Extra Care development on 14/08/2024. The work was completed to a high standard, with the 20 year guarantee achieved, and all parties involved happy with outcome.
