About the project:
Embassy Village is a pioneering project in Manchester aimed at addressing homelessness by providing 40 purpose built homes for rough sleepers. Initiated by the Embassy charity in collaboration with developers Peel Waters and Capital&Centric, the village is located on a 4.5-acre brownfield site beneath 22 railway arches off Egerton Street Bridge towards Salford.
The village will offer short to medium term accommodation, focusing on equipping residents with essential life skills such as shopping, cooking, and budgeting. A community centre is included in the plans, and this will provide facilities including a counselling room, training kitchen, laundry room, and communal computer space to support residents’ transition into independent living. Communal outdoor green spaces, mini allotment plots, and a multi-use sports area are also part of the plans.
Our role in the project at Embassy Village:
Here at Enviroply Roofing, we will be installing Sikaplan roofing systems for the accommodation pods, village hall, and staff pod.
For the first stage of the roofing build up we will begin with the Sarnavap 500 E. This is an Air and Vapour Control Layer (AVCL) that will provide exceptional moisture vapour resistance, as well as fire resistance and longevity. Designed to resist water build up and condensation, the AVCL can prevent water damage to the roof, while also providing durability and roof stability.
Following the AVCL, we will then install the insulation layer for each roof. This is an important roofing component, designed to keep heat within the pods during colder months, and preventing heat from increasing the temperature within the pods in the summer. As such, we will be installing the Sikatherm MW insulation boards for the Embassy Village. This is an insulation option that is known for its outstanding performance, with a core of mineral wool, faced with mineral fibre tissue for minimal thermal conductivity, and maximum fire protection.
Following the insulation layer, we will finally install the single ply waterproofing membrane. This provides the overall weatherproofing and waterproofing for the roofing system, keeping the pods protected from all manner of weather conditions. For the Embassy Village, we will be installing the Sikaplan G-15 Membrane. This is a high performance option that also offers excellent UV protection and strong wind resistance for long lasting durability and quality, making it the perfect fit for this project.
The roofing systems for this development will be mechanically fixed into position for maximum security.
