About the project:

As part of the East Estate Redevelopment project, the original LUMS building will be improved to meet the same standard as the West Pavilion. This refurbishment aims to create modernised teaching spaces, improved breakout and informal study spaces, as well as improved meeting areas. The East Estate will be linked to the main entrance in the West Pavilion with a new link corridor, and a new careers zone will be created in the heart of the School. An expanded PC lab, and a new café and staff lounge area are also part of the plans.

Our role in the development at Lancaster University Management School (Alumasc):

Here at Enviroply Roofing, we will be carrying out a full roof refurbishment for an existing roof at Lancaster University Management School using Alumasc materials. For this, we will be installing an Alumasc Derbigum built up roof system.

We will begin the roofing build up with the Air and Vapour Control Layer (AVCL), for which we will be using the Derbicoat Alu AVCL. This has an aluminium core, which is coated with SBS polymer modified bitumen, creating a high performance vapour barrier, designed specifically for flat roofing. It is renowned for its exceptional performance at blocking water vapour and condensation from causing problems with the rest of the roofing system, and offers a high level of durability and strength. As such, it’s a great choice for the roof refurbishment at Lancaster University Management School.

Following the AVCL, we will then install the insulation layer, for which we will be using Alumasc tapered BGT insulation boards. Roof insulation is essential for preventing the loss of heat from the building through the roof, which is one of the most common losses of energy for all manner of properties. These insulation boards will prevent this loss of heat, helping to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature all year round. Alumasc BGT PIR Insulation boards are perfect for this as these offer a high level of thermal performance, thanks to their construction. Rigid polyisocyanurate (PIR) thermal insulation boards are faced on both sides with a bitumen glass fleece facing.

Finally, we will complete the roof refurbishment with the installation of the Derbicoat underlay and the Derbigum mineral cap sheet.

The Derbicoat underlay is a base layer that is specifically designed for the Alumasc Derbigum roofing system, and is used to provide a strong foundation for waterproofing. It’s made of bitumen and helps to protect the roof structure, as a final layer of protection, before the waterproofing is added.

The Derbigum mineral cap sheet is the final layer of the roofing system. This is a durable, weather resistant sheet with a mineral surface that protects the roof from rain, UV rays, and general wear and tear.
